How to Join Second Life

Please, read this entire page before clicking on the link(s)

Joining Second Life is a two-step process:

1. Create an account for Second Life

2. Download a viewer to enter the virtual Second Life world.

    A. You can download the Second Life viewer directly: Second Life Join

    B. You can download the Firestorm viewer here: Create Second Life Account: Firestorm Gateway (firestormviewer.org)

Once you join Second Life and download the viewer of your choice, you will:

1. Log into your viewer with your new username and password (never share your password)

2. Simply type into the "Last Location" field: Door to America

3. OR click on the "Destinations" tab on the top bar and follow the instructions

When you log-in for the first time you will land at our landing spot to begin learning how to operate your avatar (walk, fly, teleport, dance, and more). Please, allow about a minute (or two) for you and the virtual world to rez (see below). 

Rez:

According to the urban dictionary, "rez" is short for "resolve." Commonly used as a verb in online virtual worlds such as Second Life. When an object or avatar is brought into the virtual world, it "rezzes." Textures used by the object(s) may take a while to become fully visible. When there is a lot of "lag," objects may take a while to rez.
